Just got it in today, hooked up the basics, hard drive, video card. It powers on, but when it gets to the video card MSI N560GTX-TI M2D1GD5/OC (which worked just fine previously) it powers on, I can see the fans going, but I get the error "hardware component failure" (one long, four short) Can't even get to the BIOS :(

Then it just sits there, until I power it off.

It's compatible per pcpartpicker, I've swapped pcie slots, I even swapped out my power supply (600 to 750)
I tried pulling the mobo battery for 5 minutes, but it's still giving me the 1 - 4 error.

Any thoughts or ideas that I can try?

Thanks!

I know what the beeps mean, I've been reading my book alongside the build. It means "Hardware component failure"...which has to be the most generic error of all time, right?

Anyway, I figured out what was happening. I had the cpu fan plugged into the wrong header. Got that fixed and no more annoying error beeps.

However,

Now, it won't post to the BIOS. :( No signal out to the monitor. It's powering on, I have one stick of ram in there, the 1.5v (I realized my pairs have two different voltages, 1.5 and 1.65), the fans and lights are merrily spinning, but not posting to the BIOS window.

I did pull the battery again for a few minutes and no joy. Now I'm really not sure where to go with it.

I am having the exact same problem, and we have a very similar build. Just bought the FX 6300 and the Asus M5a97; I have a GeForce GTX 950 SC though. Power supply is only 430 on mine, I was concerned it was the power supply. I am at work searching for solutions to try when I get home, have you tried this:

Have you fixed your problem? I would love to know!

The best fix I found was to RMA back to the retailer and replaced it completely. Maybe it's just a bad batch of boards, or perhaps quality isn't the best and an occasional bad one gets through, but I replaced it with a sabertooth 990x (newegg open box no less) which fired right up and running smooth as silk.

Thanks so much for replying. Blah that sabertooth is a bit out of my price range. I am strongly considering returning the MOBO now. Are you, by any chance familiar with any other MOBO that is similar to what you ordered but a weee bit cheaper? Thanks!

I had managed to snag the Sabertooth for $144 via newegg openbox. I opted to spend a little extra for the 990FX board instead of the 970 because it will grow with me in the future and can handle the 6300's wonderful overclocking abilities. Here are a couple to ponder.
This is the next highest rated mobo on Newegg By Asus
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131851 $129 with a $15 rebate
Or as open box for $110 (knocks $50 off)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131851R

There is a nice Gigabyte board that is $129.99 brand new with a $20 rebate card and a game code for World of Warships http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128859
Or, you can get the same board for $110 as open box. without the rebate and game code

Awesome, thanks man! I was actually impatient and bought the M5a99FX .... but now I am getting a red CPU led light :( So I am starting to think i got a bad CPU? I tried all the fixes online and nothing is working. Probably gonna RMA the CPU and hope the new one I get works!
