I have an Asus Z87 (Windows 7 pro) system that I want to upgrade to an ASRock Z97. I would prefer keeping my programs and settings rather than a clean install. I have tried extracting the Z97 chipset drivers from the ASRock but that didn’t work. I have tried Acronis Universal Restore as well, but since several of the essential drivers are in .exe files, Acronis wouldn’t work.
What would happen if I simply installed the Z97 drivers into the Z87 system? Is this crazy or would it work?

I'm not sure you see what I am trying to do. If I simply replace the Z87 board with the Z97 and then try to boot the system, it fails (because I haven't installed the drivers). I am just trying to save myself some time. Not a big deal, but I just thought it could be worth a try.
