Hi guys,
I'm a student in University who's old windows laptop has broken down and given up the ghost, and I'm looking to build my own PC. I want to run stuff like CS:GO, Fallout 4, Arma 3, some games like that and some CAD and design software for my degree. I have a fairly limited budget, but I can do it over time so it shouldn't be a massive problem. If you could help me with a full system of components that works together and is all compatible that would be greatly appreciated. Budget Region is £500-£1200

Many Thanks

example AMD Build
Pros, Hex-core processor which is good for rendering purposes, overclocks nicely, is cheaper by a good margin.
Cons, single core processing games like MOBA/MMORPG's FPS will be worse than the Intel build, CPU is more power hungry and the AM3+chipset is almost dead.

An entry level i5 from 4th generation (Haswell) or an i5 from 6th generation (Skylake ) will do your job. Pair it with an r9 270x or a gtx 960. It will serve you very well. And ofcourse get 8GB of RAM.
You are welcome.

If you list your budget, this would narrow down all the parts for an optimal performance rig. If you are in the mid-range, you should go Intel i5 since the AMD is no longer creating AM3 CPUs. A GTX 960 or R9 380 4GB would be the ideal cards to get under $200.

Example Intel Build.
Pros, Will work very well for all listed activities, single core processing is far above the AMD, Newest chipset offering good upgradability for the future.
Cons, More expensive, CPU unable to overclock unless you spend more to get the I5-6600k.

You are correct but an r9 380 4 GB is almost equivalent to gtx 970. He said he is on a tight budget so I am suggesting anr9 270 or a gtx 760 or gtx 960. :)

You must be thinking of the R9 380X because the R9 380 and GTX 960 are very similiar and comparable in graphics performance.
