Upgrade CPU, Mobo, Ram or add 2nd 980 ti?

First my current system:

ASUS Rampage III Formula LGA 1366 Intel X58
CORSAIR DOMINATOR 12 GB DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
Intel Core i7-950 Bloomfield Quad-Core @3.81 GHz
EVGA 980 TI FTW
CORSAIR Professional Series Gold AX1200 1200W

I recently put the 980 ti in and it blew me away (came from 2 580's in SLI). My question is, do I get another 980 ti or do I do I gut her and throw a new mobo, cpu and ram in there? If i were to gut her I'd put the new skylake and with the ddr 4 and all that jazz, bells and whistles you know? What is going to give me more bang for my buck? Am I bottle necking the current 980 ti? Would I be with 2?

My knee-jerk reaction after seeing i7-950 and X58 is to say upgrade the CPU/MB/RAM and cooler. But just for arguments sake... What resolution and FPS do you play at? What games do you wish to play? But without knowing those answers, I would just assume that you'd be well off to replace the things I mentioned above and sell the old components on Ebay. By the way, what's your upgrade budget?

Are you playing on 4k or plan to upgrade to 4k in the near future? You don't need 980TI SLI unless you are doing 4k gaming, for 1080p and 1440p its fine.

And I would definitely upgrade your CPU, MOBO and RAM first since they are a little old.

Right now I play 1080 but I want to be playing 1440 soon, this is why I'm leaning toward the 980 ti. I haven't tried it yet with a CPU heavy game like Total War, but Attila ran with the 580's at med settings before the 980 ti. I play Witcher 3, BF 4 & Hardline, will be playing the Division, DOTA 2. They all run maxed now with the 980 ti. Really, I want to take the step to 1440, and if I can do that on the current CPU/RAM/MOBO with another 980 ti without a serious bottleneck then I would like to do that.

You won't need a second 980ti to play at 1440p, one is more than enough. In your case I would just upgrade your CPU/RAM and MOBO, could probably even wait a bit for next gen stuff .

I applaud your desire to go 2 way SLI with 980 Ti's in anticipation of upgrading to 1440p, but the upgrade that offers you the best-bang-for-your-buck is the new CPU + MB + memory. I don't have hard data to back that argument up. Matter-a-fact, I even went on YouTube to see if anyone was attempting such a thing; I couldn't find even one person with an i7-950 + GTX 980 TI, let alone two. Would you mind doing something to satisfy my curiosity? Would you mind running task manager (performance tab) while you're playing a few of these titles and report back what your CPU peaks at during game play? It's such a rare opportunity to find someone with your combination of setup.
