not yet finished with a gaming pc yet, but i am very close, do i need some sort of card to connect to the internet

If you want to use Wifi, then you need a wifi expansion card or a usb wifi adapter.
If you are using ethernet, just plug an ethernet cable from your router to your ethernet port on the motherboard's I/O panels.
