hello i got a HP EliteBook 8470p with intel hd 4000 on it and i was wondering if i could upgrade the video, it does not have to be be a new graphics card it could be a new cpu with better video on it.

Those aren't what you think they are. They still require a separate power supply, certain cables, and some case for the GPU itself. And they generally are used for connecting to a larger monitor separately. Definitely not something for a portable solution. There are no "all in the box" solutions for that (that I'm aware of anyway). Most people put one together themselves from many different components.

You couldn't upgrade the GPU on it even if you wanted to and it came with one as they are almost always soldered onto the motherboard. The only way to upgrade would be to put in a new chip with the newer HD 5000 or 6000-series graphics, but those are on newer chips (Broadwell, Haswell) and will not work on your older laptop's Ivy Bridge motherboard (and not to mention would be extremely expensive to buy).

Hate to be the bad news breaker, but the HD 4000 is what you are stuck with if you want to keep that laptop. :-/
