My ultimate pc setup would have to be the ability to play all the original pc games on their original hardware. No emulators or dos box.

If you had 4 or 5 pc setups to be able to play every pc game ever made what would the specs have to be.

From the dos version of adventure or donkey. To the aaa games of 2016 what 5 PCs would play them all?

Maybe it's helpful to think in terms of operating systems. But would a 3086 with 3.11 on it play dos 1.0 games.

My initial thoughts are.

.2086 sx processor win 3.1 or dos 6.22

.5086 dx 100. Windows 3.11 or 95

.p2 400 win 98 or me

.pentium 3 1.5ghz win xp

.core i7 windows 7/10

This is just a quick post but I'd be very interested in sensible input. have I got gaps of games I couldn't play with these specs? Is it doable with 5 systems? can anyone elaborate with compatable graphics and sound cards or motherboards

Solution
those would work, for any game since the late 80s to about 2000. but you have a big gap between the P III (circa 2000) and i7s (2010-up). Probly want an Athlon 64 or 64x2 build in between

and an 8088 build for early 80s games

Your right. This is a total vanity project. Dosbox would be easyer. But nothing beats having the systems set up for for good ol nostalga.

It's a wile since I had all those systems set up in my grandads loft so I'm Hazy on the specs but I remember for every time I had a pig of a time getting a game to work I was overjoyed when it did. The failure made the success so much better

If you watch lgr channel on you tube. I'm so envious of all the cool systems he has. I guess that's my goal.
