Maximum Core Temp Difference for Intel CPU to be Considered Faulty

Hello,

I am buying a new laptop from a company and the laptop has a 20+ Celsius temperature delta between core 2 and the rest of the cores in its CPU. The CPU is a 6820 HK laptop processor. On a benchmark at stock speeds it had around 83 Celsius for core 2 and below 65 Celsius for the rest of the cores.
I think they warped the IHS when pasting?

Either way, the company says this temperature delta is ok but I think not...

What is the Maximum Core Temp Difference for a mobile Intel CPU to be Considered Faulty?

Your help on this matter is much appreciated!

Thanks,
Mason

Completely normal. I ran my i7 2630QM at around 100C without any issues. Laptops are designed to run hotter than desktops, but 100C is also not recommended, but 80 C is completely fine. Use a multithreaded app and then check again whether or not it's the same thing, that could indicate something being wrong with the CPU, but it would still be nothing serious. The moment your OS freeze while doing something, or your PC force shutdown, that's when you should worry, in which case it's probably just dust blocking the air from escaping the case.

Technically I think it would be considered 'ok' by a company and in order to validate an rma you'd have to have evidence that something isn't working properly. I'm not aware of any intel docs that specify temperature delta differences between cores or indicate that for instance 'more than x amount degrees C difference' is a problem or warranty worthy.

I also wouldn't exactly call it 'normal', a 20+ C temp spread between cores doesn't sound overly wonderful. 10c or less between the highest and lowest cores would be more preferable. Technically I don't think it's faulty though so not sure there's much to do about it.

It only happened after the paste job and no one else with this laptop has fire than a 4 degree delta between cores
