Like a few other ppl I too just now encountered my RAM refusing to operate in dual channel. It only operates in single apparently.

1) I ran both CPU Z and Speccy. Both show my 2 4GB 1600mhz sticks but not in dual, only in single channel 8GB.

2) I looked through win 7s system info and it shows roughly half available of the 8gb

3) I even did the same with 2 4gb 1333mhz sticks. I have gotten the same single channel debacle :(

4) Everything was running fine till last night. My RAM was running in dual channel just fine. All 8GB were showing up like normal.

Any ideas if the ram slots on my MSI 970 Gaming board is bad?

Solution
I already replaced the MB with an MSI 970A-G46. Found out it was the BIOs that was causing it. When I tried to flash it to the current version it would instantly freeze. Also the SSD I had the OS on had somehow gotten corrupted, so I formatted it a few times. Its working fine now. All 8 GB (2 4GB sticks) are now properly being read as dual channel.

Thanks for the help

yup they in slots 2 and 4 currently. I just ran memtest on them. no errors.

I just noticed something odd. I checked Speccy again. Its showing 8GB but as a single stick in single channel mode. I have 2 4gb sticks in slot 2 and 4

Yeah I tried them. I tried the 1866mhz sticks in single format in all 4 slots. System Info, Speccy, and CPU Z picked them up in 4GB. I tried the 2 4gb 1333mhz sticks from my linux machine in the same fashion. They were all picked up as 4GB in all 4 slots.
