Hello,

I was recently given 4 computers, 1 Dell Vostro 230 & 3 HP Compaq desktops. I'd really like to get the Dell up and running and some of the HP's if I don't scrap them for parts.

Anyways, with the Dell when I plug it in and turn it on I get power to the CPU heat-sink fan & the rear case fan for a second then the rear case fan turns off and the CPU heat-sink fan keeps running. The LED indicator on the front of the case is a solid orange color. Nothing shows up on the VGA display or through the DVI video card. I was getting 3 beeps from the MOBO, but I believe that was a contact issue with the RAM and took it out and put it back in securely to stop the beeps.

I've tried swapping the PSU out for one of the others in the HP computers and I get the same result on the Dell. (They are all having the exact same issue, except some of the HP's are able to keep the rear case fan spinning)

Any thoughts on what this could be? Maybe the CMOS battery or is the MOBO actually dead on all of these...

Solution
According to Dell, a solid orange light means a faulty PSU. If you have any spares that aren't from one of the HP's, try it.

Hmm, ok I tried pulling one from the HP but no luck. They all came from a local charity, so I suppose they could have all been hit by a surge. I'll try taking the one out of my gaming desktop and see if that gets it going.

Thanks!
