Hi all first post here

I'm looking to boost my ageing pc with a new cpu so I'm looking for the fastest quad cpu to work with my stryker extreme mobo with 8gb of dominator gt ram along with a ssd

The best is probably the Q(X)9750, but really, you aren't going to see a major improvement over even a 6000 series C2Q. That platform is basically dead, and games aren't even supporting it anymore. It's time to move on.

The core 2 quad is a great little cpu when buying used for budget PCs. Look at the work linustechtips did with his q6600 on scrap yard wars. These processors are still great options for budget gaming and will provide a significant upgrade over the core 2 duo just look up your mother board online and check what's compatible!
