Is 1 GTX 980ti enough to drive 3 1080p monitors?

If I were planning on playing games like Star Citizen and GTA V on a triple-monitor, 1080p (I'm not bothering with 4k, I don't really see any use) setup, would 1 980ti be enough, or would I need a TITAN X or even two 980ti's?

You'll need to sli in maybe a year, but for now, you should be able to run most of the games, just not games like witcher, they require crazy graphics power.

Would it be prudent to just SLI now, instead of waiting? Would it allow me to run everything at maximum settings?

2560 x 1440 is about 3.68 million pixels and is where gaming is currently "at" at the the present time
5760 x 1080 is about 6.22 million pixels
3840 x 2160 is about 8.29 million pixels

Ya don't see many sites testing 5760 anymore as gamers shift from 3 screen setups to larger resolutions or wide screens but to get an idea of performance, 5760 is about half way between 2160p (4k) and 1440p. So if ya want to get an idea of where you'd be , it would be about 55% of the way from 2160p to 1440p.

Witcher 3 would be about 45 fps at your res based upon numbers here with one 980 Ti:

Another way to estimate would be to take the 4k numbers and divide by 0.75 (about 43 fps)

I built a system once for 4k with 2 980tis, the only problem it had running was pretty much the triple A games like witcher and for some reason GTA V but still managed a playable 60 with ultra/high. But yes, you should be able to manage max with SLI.

Depends on the games i can play black ops 3 on 3 1080p monitors with above 144fps every game is above 100 fps and that is with max settings.

Stop spreading inaccuracies please.Twin sli 980ti's at 4k playing GTA V on ultra settings deliver steady 70fps and upwards on my rig.Only thing turned off was msaa. And tbh AA should have been turned off as well cuz it didn't really give me something better visually. Talking about sli, 2x295x2x give about 90 fps. So why the hell not 70 fps in 2x gtx 980ti's. You probably got a bottleneck dragging you down.

I do not understand what you mean by your post, i'm pretty sure the word "MAX" is supposed to include some AA, please understand before making a comment.

not to mention gta 5 and rise of the tomb raider since games are games is getting vram hungry

The whole point of AA is to reduce jaggies and such that are caused by rendering in lower resolutions. Using AA at 4K seems kinda superfluous to me.

Also, what "MAX" means is highly subjective in such a situation. For most people, no, it does not involve AA; it involves the actual graphical quality settings like for textures, shadows, etc.
