CPU won't boot until after I've pressed the power button twice....

Basically, I have to press and hold down the power button twice on my CPU, so that the computer turns on and off twice. The third time I hit the power button, it boots up normally.....every time.

If I just hit the power button once, it turns on with fans and everything running but doesn't actually boot up. It will run like that until I manually shut it down by pressing the power button again.

It's been doing this for a few months. I have no idea what prompted it in he first place. Just seemed to start doing this out of nowhere.

Also, that darn "blue screen of death" pops up periodically (it's very inconsistent), as well. I've got to think it's all related somehow. But who knows....maybe it's just an unbelievable coincidence!

Any ideas?

Thanks, in advance!! :)

You have to get the same exact board. HP parts are proprietary, and you can only replace a model's board with another board, from the same model. Check for any bulging or leaking caps, on the motherboard. That system is so old, I wouldn't advise sticking a bunch of money in it.

Is there any way to narrow it down between the two?

Also, if it IS the motherboard, what would be a good compatible replacement for it?

Thanks for all of your help. Might be time for a new CPU.

I don't think it would take that much to upgrade the CPU I have, considering it's age.

Once again.....thank you!
