Hi it would be great if someone could help.. I'm fairly inexperienced with computing-

I've just taken it apart my motherboard and all most of its components and wires to install a SSD and a new heatsink and fan.

I have a Msi 760ga-p43 (fx) Motherboard. Ive reinstalled Windows 8.1 on my new SSD.

Upon reinstalling and restarting it all, my 3 of my USB 3.0 ports don't work (2 on the back and one on the front)

Ive checked the MSI bios and USB3 is enabled.
It could be that they are missing a USB 3.0 driver?
I find it weird that when i first got the pc, all the drivers installed with ease using the "driver & utilities" disks that MSI provided. This time, obviously, those disks havent done the job!

Does anyone know which driver I need?
Is this even a driver issue or is it a hardware /wiring issue?

Please help!

Hi, thanks for the comment.

So Ive rebooted my old HDD and the USB 3.0 ports dont work on there either. (they did before I took the pc apart)
Also, my phone or any other device do not charge or get any power from the USB3.0 ports.

Which leads me to think that this is a hardware or wiring issue? That they are not getting power somehow?

It also turns out that MSI don't provide a windows 8 usb 3.0 driver for my motherboard(I opened a ticket with them). I have no idea what driver I was using before... but it wasnt from MSI.

This is a real conundrum..

Well Ive ran several checks with Slimdrivers and Driver Toolkit and installed all updates and missing drivers for all components.
Theres no drivers or hardware that needs a driver relating to USB3.0 on my device manager. There are no errors or anything on my device manager- its as if there is no trace of the USB3.0 ports being attached to the motherboard.

If windows is not even seeing them, and you are sure they are turned on properly, in the bios, then it could be the board's USB 3.0 controller is bad. I have seen usb's go bad on motherboard before. That particular board was not a very good one to begin with.

Ok that's what a feared- Ill have to come to terms with that! Thanks for helping me.

One last question... Would an external USB 3 controller board to attach to a PCI port work on my dodgy motherboard? Could you recommend one?
