Hi Guys,

Could you please advise me is it worth upgrading my CPU i7 870 2.93 Ghz [CPU is OCd to 3.90 Ghz] to i7 4790K?

I am interested with this deal:

https://www.scan.co.uk/products/intel-quad-core-i7-4790k-processor-plus-msi-z97-gaming-5-motherboard-bundle

I want to achieve better performance. It would be ideal to reduce temperatures. I do not plan to OC 4790K, my current temp are about 72-76 degrees. I use PC mainly for gaming. My GPU is MSI R9 290X and I have 8 GB of RAM. If I decide to buy new CPU I will have to replace motherboard as well. I will probably add 8 GB or RAM.

The CPU was released in 2014, is it not too old to last for next four years? I will be cooling it with my Cooler Master EVO 212. My current motherboard will be sold with CPU for 150 pounds so the upgrade will really cost me 220 pounds. Is it worth it?

Thanks for help !

Yes I belive you still have a viable system there but the I 7 4790k will give you much stronger net results now then the 870 you have and if your worried about future proofing well I guess we all are because so much changes so fast the Skylakes have a 5 % or so advantage over the Haswell Cpus as of now I think you be ok with a I 7 4790 for a few years down the road you already proven that with the 870 you have since its already about 7 years old it came out in 09 hope this helps.
