New to building PC's. What do you think of this build?

I'll be using the computer for development with Unity and UE4 as well as editing, effects, and heavy gaming.

My recommendation would be to replace that cooler with a 212 evo. It's safer. Use the saved money to improve that PSU and Case. Replace those two sticks of RAM with a G.Skill kit. Replace the GPU with a 970. Saves you $100 and gets you better quality components in some areas. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/QnHT8d

Better mb , RAM kit thats faster and cheaper , power supply that is adequate for the gpu and much better quality ,

SO, how does this work with 3-D modeling and development?

The i7 is hyperthreaded and better for multi threaded tasks. That combined with the faster RAM will shorten your renders.
