Right now i have the asrock 990 extreme 9, amd fx 8320 cpu , msi twin frozr III 680 4g ddr5 gpu, 8 gb of ram. I am also planning to upgrade my pc but i dont know where to start, if should i change some of the parts like mobo and add some cooling stuff. please any suggestions

Solution

Hi - Don't think there is a mobo upgrade that would be beneficial, you already have a full featured one.

What is your budget for upgrades and what is your current PSU?

650w. im thinking to get a new gpu maybe and you think my cpu is still good?

Yes, your fx 8320 is good and no need to change unless your going to Intel (and that requires a new mobo).

Generally (almost always) the most noticeable improvement is with a GPU upgrade. For example a gtx970
will outperform the 680 and a gtx980 or 980ti even more so.

However, still need to know brand/model of the PSU. The 970 & 980 use less power than your 680, so
you should be OK, but would like to be sure (you don't have a ticking time bomb).

The other thing you should look at is RAM. DDR3 is so inexpensive consider going to 16g, only don't purch
another 8g, get a 16g (2x8g) set. The sticks will have been tested to work well together.

oh man, you're helping me alot haha, im so glad. :) what about my cpu . coz right now im just suing a normal cooler on it

Yes, sorry i overlooked that - an aftermarket CPU cooler should be part of your upgrade.
A ggod quality air cooler can be had for less than $50, such as:
https://pcpartpicker.com/part/cryorig-cpu-cooler-h7

https://pcpartpicker.com/part/cryorig-cpu-cooler-h5ultimate

https://pcpartpicker.com/part/phanteks-cpu-cooler-phtc12dxbk

The 1st one is ex & only $35.

Depending on your budget, you could go up a bit. That means a larger fan(140mm vs 120mm, so it can spin a
little slower to achieve the cooling, thus being quieter.
The 2nd & 3rd are 140mm fans.

which gpu should i get btw haha, any suggestion ? alos im using an antec mid tower case for my pc, should i also need to change it? it might not fit my cpu fan

Antec mid tower should be fine, the three coolers I listed are compatible with your cpu, so unless you
have a small form factor case then you're OK with your mid tower.

With regards ti the GPU, what's your budget? A good gtx 970 can now be had for $300, but a 980 will run
in the $470 - $500& up range. A 980ti will run $610 - $650.

AMD r9 380x is in the $220 - $265 range, the 390 which is comparable to a gtx970 starts at $285. A 390x
will run $350 - $400. There's also the r9 Fury and r9 Nano in the $480 - $540 range. If I could afford the Nano
for my rig now I would get one, but other priorities for me.

i want to pick the best gpu for 1080p monitor only. which one you prefer the best :)

Hi - for 1080p a gtx 970 will give you ex perf & noticeable improvement over your 680 & represents a good
price/performance when compared to the gtx 980(big incr in price not big per increase).

Just be aware that the new GTX (Pascal) GPU's will be out later this year. Personally, I don't play the waiting
game, but be aware they are supposed to be an improvement. But, for 1080p gaming, I wouldn't wait.

i see haha, btw. if iwanna overclocked my cpu do i still have to buy same fans you suggest earlier? and on the gpu do i need to buy a water cooling for it?

Generally a good air cooler will suffice(for the CPU) and that's the way I'd go (the 2nd one I linked above @ $47 should be fine)
I wouldn't go water cooling for the GPU unless it was def needed. If you have at least two case fans you should be
OK, a front intake and rear exhaust at a minimum, a 3rd would help a lot. Is your PSU top mounted or bottom mounted
in the case? Depending on how its mounted it might also be exhausting hot air.

Install Speedfan(Google it & download) & you can control the speed of the fans on the GPU if needed.

this is the antec im using right now.

Good - plenty of cooling & more than enough room for the CPU cooler.

should i mounted the psu top or bottom.

Ah, your case is a bottom mounted PSU. If you are asking should you face it up or down, it doesn't matter.
There are people here that will tell you to never face a bottom mtd PSU up
I would say this, if there's a dust filter under where the PSU would sit and the case is not sitting on a carpet,
then prob face it down as you have four internal case fans now & shouldn't need the PSU sucking hot air
off your GPU.

I'm off for the next several hours, so won't see any posts for a while. Good luck with your components.

thanks a lot man, one last question haha. i only have 600w psu, i just checked a while ago. is it still ok for the two 970's you recommeneded yesterday?

Hi - it should be, but the reason I asked for brand/model is there are a lot of bad/junk PSU's out there
that don't deliver their adv specs. A decent 600w unit is more than enough for a gtx 970, but you need
to know if your PSU falls into the decent (or even fair) category or junk.
