I recently noticed that and correct if am wrong or let me know why games developers give higher system requirements than what the game really needs to run smoothly,

based on my XP as below:

My Rig
MSI B85 Military Class 4
I5 4590 @3.3Ghz
GTX 750 TI 2GB GDDR5
12GB Ram @1333Mhz

Games I tested

Batman - Arkham Knight

OS: Win 7 SP1, Win 8.1 (64-bit Operating System Required)
•Processor: Intel Core i7-3770, 3.4 GHz | AMD FX-8350, 4.0 GHz
•Memory: 8 GB RAM

based on this I don't meet the recommended 3GB GPU ram, I don't meet the recommended CPU, I don't meet the recommended GPU m however I run the game smoothly on Normal @ 32FPS average range between 25 FPS to 39.FPS

another game

Fallout 4

Recommended System Req

Recommended: Windows 7/8/10 (64-bit OS required).
Intel Core i7 4790 3.6 GHz/AMD FX-9590 4.7 GHz or equivalent. 8GB RAM.
30GB free HDD space.
NVIDIA GTX 780 3GB/AMD Radeon R9 290X 4GB or equivalent.

Same issue, my rig doesn't meet the recommend GPU Ram, CPU and GPU Type.

However I run the game on high @ 40-43 Average FPS, with min of 32-35 FPS

same with AC: Syndicate.

I believe system requirements should be tested and 30FPS being smooth to run, as I cant see much difference if the game is running @30FPS or 60 FPS.

my GPU is bit old and mid range however it runs latest games smoothly on high settings.

on other hand I believe that games developers with hardware companies(Intel, AMD, NVidia) need to put reasonable requirements and prices to their items, as ppl will go to PS console as you buy it once and no need to pay again for anything for it, however for PC you need to update your rig atleast every two years which I believe is big advantage to PC

Maybe developers mark high requirements to support hardware companies.

The main reason isn't marketing or pricing, rather overestimating minimums to avoid complaints. If your system gets only 30fps but everyone expects 60, people will complain that the software isn't optimized. More than anything else though, graphics memory limits are actually a big issue, since software has to reserve a certain amount of memory for their engine's needs. If the card only supports 2GB and you reserve 3 because the program needs it, performance will drop a ton at certain parts.

Note that while your computer doesn't meet recommended specs, is DOES meet minimum specs. Basically all your comments are moot because of that.
