Hi guys!

So i really dont know to much about ram... yesterday i got my HyperX Savage DDR4 2400MHZ CL12 and is just stuck at 2133. By the way they are two sticks of 4GB.

CPU: Intel i3 6100.
MOBO: Gigabity Z170XP-SLI.

I read something about the XMP in the BIOS but i dont know

Solution
although 8gb is enough by todays standards for the average user / gamer , 16gb will be better in the long run. first comes capacity and then speed. so i would prefe the 16gb kit.
Your processor only supports RAM speeds up to 2133

that is not true. only the mobo would limit ram support , however having a Z170 can try running above standard 2133mhz. the i3 doesnt have that strong memory controller, wouldnt run 3000mz, however 2400mhz wouldnt pose a problem. get into bios and set exteme memory profile (x.m.p) option to profile 1, it is that simple.!

While the board does support RAM speeds higher than 2133MHz (in fact, that being the lowest speed it provides), all of the faster speeds are considered "overclocked" speeds. So, unless you activate & set an XMP profile for the board, it won't run the RAM any faster.

That being said...you're talking about an increase in speed of only 12.5%, & I highly doubt you'll even see that much of a performance increase should you manage to boost it up to 2400 MHz. So unless you're really comfortable messing with BIOS settings, I wouldn't bother.

oh come on , we are pc users , why would we hesitate to dig in bios in specific.? UEFI bios is so user friendly these days compared to legacy bios.! regardless of the performance gain i would want my hardware to work at its rated performace!

I understand. I just got another option, i can change de HyperX Savage DDR4 2400MHZ CL12 for this kit: HyperX FURY 2133MHz Kit 2x8GB C14... so i dont have to mess with the bios AND i will have 8GB more. That will be better? The savage is more fast for the MHZ and the CAS but i dont think i would ever see that in gaming

For those of us that have to answer to other people when we fiddle with the home PC & its components (*cough* spouse *cough*), especially when their major concerns for performance are 1) does it turn on 100% of the time, 2) does the Internet work, & 3) do the non-game apps work 100% of the time, fiddling with BIOS to force faster RAM speeds, let alone OC the CPU, essentially becomes a no-brainer "don't fix what isn't broken" situation...:D

overclocking isnt a necessity in order to run faster than 2133mhz(depends on the silicon) , however will most certainly help run even faster! . with skylake, overclocking is still possible even on non k i3 / i5 unlike previous gens .

Core i3 6100 o/ced 4.44ghz running 2666mhz ram

i've recently built the more powerful 6700k at stock running 3000mhz cl15 on asus sabertooth

Thank you guys im going to change the 8GB Savage for the 16GB Fury. After all i still can overclock de Fury later right? If i learn... LOL. And i probably going to change the i3 for one i5 later this year.
