Your motherboard is an AM3 type of socket. The FX-6300 is an AM3+ type of processor.

Yes, it can mechanically fit your MoBo and it will work normally. What you will be missing out for not having a proper AM3+ motherboard is that the throughput of the AM3 platform is lower, thus you'll not be using your FX-6300 to it's full potential.

In other words, you'll be bottlenecked by the motherboard, but it works. You might want to add a new MoBo to your list of 'things to buy next' to use the 6300 to its full potential.

edit: doing a quick check, it seems that in the worst case scenario, if your FX-6300 is not working on the get-go, newer BIOS updates for your m68mt-s2 would make it functional.

Ehhhhh I was checking their website for the whole thing and it says AM3, not AM3+ (http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3645#ov). But in any case, if it is AM3+, then it should work normally.
