Hey everyone,

I'll begin with a little background story. My computer is now 3 or 4 years old, it has NEVER really completely worked fine, the cause is still a mystery to me (presumably the gpu) but i don't really care much about that part anymore. so last year i completely had it and I plugged out my computer, put it in the closet and got rid of it for a year.

Now i got it out again, plugged it in just the way i left it and to my surprise now the motherboard is giving me errors, I've never had an issues with my motherboard to my knowledge.

As the title explains, I'm talking about the Asrock x58 Extreme and the errors are:
- One loud ongoing beep that starts the moment you push the power button
- the led gets stuck on code 2E. The description in the manual says "Initializes all the output devices"

I am not sure now what the problem is or where to start looking.

Anyone that can enlighten me on this problem?

Well, for some reason, it gets past the 2E code now and goes to 00 (like it usually was)

But the beep continues.

I'm using the AMD Radeon 6950HD. And if i remove the card and start the system up it does not beep.

Does this mean my graphics card is dead? (even though it was pretty much disfunctional from the start)

Edit: It appears when i plug in the card, there are 2 beeps, Is it possible for the gpu to beep as well? (i'm starting to think i made this post in the wrong section, i'm starting to get the feeling my motherboard is still okay and my gpu is being mean to me again ;c)

Yes when my system worked as intended (not counting the random shutdowns all the time) the led always has displayed 00.

in the manual the 00 code is described as "passes control to OS loader (typically INT19h)

I also found this in and online manual of the graphics card:
"The computer beeps and the boot process stops:

Make certain that the graphics card is properly connected to the internal power supply and the motherboard."

Does the graphics card require an additional power connector? I made the mistake of hooking up an old AGP GTX8600 without the extra molex connector one time, and it made one heck of a racket.

yes it does require an additional power connector, which was the first problem we stumbled upon when i first got the computer. But that was about 4 years ago.
And back then it made the same loud noise as it does now, but this time they are connected.

Can a mod maybe transfer this to the graphic cards section? or should i open a new topic there?
