So I was planning to get an aftermarket cooler for my HD7870XT. I don't plan to upgrade anytime soon so I thought I'd spend some money on a cooler since the stock one is rather loud and the card gets hot in some games (NFS MW 2012 @80 degrees celsius). I was looking at Arctic Accelero Xtreme III and IV coolers. I saw that IV has a backplate, about 25mm high and I was wondering would it interfere with the heatsink on the northbridge, or do I need to install the backplate at all. Thanks in advance.

Solution
Based off the installation manual yes the backplate on the Accelero Xtreme IV will conflict with the north bridge heatsink on your motherboard. The safe route would be to go with the revision prior(i.e Accelero Xtreme III). The safest route would be to get an NZXT G10 Kraken bracket and an AIO cooler in order to get those temps down.

Even better would be to get a full cover waterblock and go custom level watercooling.

Thanks for the reply and sorry for not replying sooner. I decided to keep the card as-is, and maybe someday get GELID Icy Vision-A, since sit would not interfere with anything.
