Hi all,

I just recently but together a system and my MSI 970 gaming motherboard was defective. SOOO, I will not be buying MSI motherboards any time soon. I was looking at some of the newer motherboards from Gigabyte and ASUS. I really like what these two companies are doing here, bringing vibrance back to an outdated platform.

Before I keep jabbering on, here are the links to the two motherboards that I am looking at:

Gigabyte: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128887

ASUS: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132713

Which one would be better for this processor, if either of them play nicely with it, or if they work at all?

Now, the ASUS board is $20 more expensive, and I am on a fairly tight budget. WIth AM4 coming out at the end of the year (hopefully), should I purchase one of these higher end boards, or go with something less expensive. I AM planning on upgrading to Zen as soon as it launches.

Thank you for your patience.

Skip those and get this.

That is the gigabyte 970a-ud3p. If I'm not mistaken it has 8+2 power phasing which should even handle an 8 core ok. Don't think the gigabyte 970 gaming you linked does. Didn't look real close at the Asus. But you see the price difference.

I've got the gigabyte 970a-ud3, which is the older version of the ud3p. Works fine with the fx 6300, have mine overclocked to 4.3ghz. If your just running a single card, grab the ud3p in my opinion, overclock the 6300 as high as it will go and be happy.

But I would not spend much more on a board that you are replacing. Longevity should be ok though. My board is about 2 years old and going strong.

hey everyone
so quick follow-up to the above, I am having the same decision dilemma as Wes Koerber was, the thing is the price difference for me here is more to the tune of £6-7 which i would certainly agree is worth putting down for the extra usb and m.2 features, so my question is more with regards to the negative
that is to say is there any reason (aside from price) that i should not pick the new gaming mobo over the older 970a~* board

thank you

Hi, I got the ud3p for $70, and it was a great decision. The board can overclock great...the only thing holding my back is heat. But get this board instead of those newer ones, IMO.

I do not reccomend getting a Gigabyte. I got the same as you the 970a-ud3p and it broke twice within less than a year. Im never buying from them again and going with ASUS or MSI
