The only problem comparing a gaming PC to a console is the frame timings are more consistent on consoles. Game play is far smoother when I tested Dying Light on my Xbox One as opposed to my gaming PC when I capped the frames. So you actually need more FPS than 30 most of the time in PC games, which caused a lot of confusion, because you can't directly compare the two.
Your GTX 660 already beats a PS4's graphics so you can make games look better, or look the same but run better, your choice. I have consoles and PC's and I don't mind gaming on either, on my projector any of them look good, but say Skyrim for instance, if it was out for the next gen consoles I would get that and play that due to the fact that I have a lot of friends on the network, but if I wanted to add mods, then hands down PC.
I added 4k textures and all kinds of crazy things to my Skyrim, and that's a good thing. On console you don't have that freedom, but you already have a PC that is better than most people's gaming PC's so not sure why you're worried.
As far as crashes, never happend to me on either console, so I would like to say that's a lie. My PC especially new titles, crash like there's no tomorrow, it's ridiculous in comparison. If you don't buy new games on launch date, then they should be fairly optimised and perhaps a lot cheaper, though the big titles usually don't drop in price.
It's just preference, but as someone else said, you already answer your own question by saying "Always wanted a PS4". If you don't like it, can't you just return it?
