My new 2TB WD Black HDD makes griding noise. That has been passed SMART test and Chkdsk which showed everything is alright. I have also run defrag and full scan but still noise is there. Is there any way to get ride of this noise?

Solution
Well, WD Black shouldn't make grinding noises. Actually, no hard drive should really make these. :)
It would be best if you just RMA it.

Cheers,

Hi there Behnam_1,

Sorry that you are facing some issues with your WD drive. :(
It may be a good idea to start with just backing up the data stored on the drive. Grinding noises are not really a good sing when it comes to external drives.
After that, you can re-seat the drive. Use different cables(SATA+power) ones. You can even attach it to a different port.

What testing tool have you used. Even though you've already tested it, it will not hurt to run both short and extended DLG tests: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=WwBPF9

Is the drive under warranty?

Let me know how this goes,

Hi D_Know_WD,
Thanks for your reply. I have already done this DLD test and result was pass for all of drives. Also I have used CrystalDiskInfo 5.6.2 to monitor the temperature and see the details and found temp at 36"C .
I have replaced my Seagate 500GB with this 2TB WD and just used the black SATA 3Gb/s data cable and power cable that used to use with Seagate unit. I have just purchased this unit on Tuesday and have got warranty. I have also contacted seller to find out the reason but they asked me to provide serial number so I will provide them.
Can you please confirm this noise is not common in this model? That because I have searched a lot and faced some people faced this issue.

Regards.
Behnam

that drive should operate whisper quite at most - all my blacks are running like there not even there ?? [opinion] back up and rma the drive ...

my experance with wd has been good and have replaced 2 drives [in like 17 years] just fill out the request from wd and if I recall they approve it and send you a paid mailing slip to use -- one thing be sure you box the drive with its protection [end covers and static wrap ] that goes a long way with them ...
