PLEASE HELP ASAP! GPU wont install!!!

I cant start the computer with the GPU in the PCI-E slot...

I have the GTX 980 Ti G1 Gaming Graphics Card and the z170a gaming pro mobo from MSI

The whole system boots up just fine, fans spinning and everything, without the graphics card. I even got to install windows and start installing drivers and stuff, but I cant install the graphics card drivers, because the graphics card needs to be in the motherboard to be able to install the drivers for it.

I ran everything, its all fine, then I turned off my computer, installed the GPU, turned on my computer, and it wont start up. I dont know what the problem is. Please help. ASAP D:

More about asap gpu wont install
  1. Full system specs please-also did you make sure your gpu is seated properly and the power connectors are plugged in?
  2. Corsair HX750i 750W 80 Plus Platinum Power Supply
    Samsung 850 EVO Series 250GB 2.5in SSD
    Corsair H100i GTX
    i7 6700k
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980 Ti G1 Gaming
    MSI Z170A Gaming Pro Motherboard
Corsair LPX 16 gb ram (2x8gb)

The GPU is seated properly, it spins up when I turn the computer on, but it wont post. The DRAM light on the motherboard also lights up, and everything is plugged in properly in the graphics card. The computer runs fine without the GPU in the slot, but it just doesnt want to post when I put the GPU in. Ive also tried moving the DVI cord into the GPU, and no post. I really need some help here, otherwise I literally cant use my computer.
  3. Q-code please. Check if the mobo "talks" to you.

The PSU you got, is a modular version? check if they are plugged in correctly and the right sockets.

    1. What's a Q-code?
    2. How would the motherboard talk to me?
    3. Everything is plugged in correctly.
  5. Read: https://www.asus.com/support/faq/1002017 - They should also be in your mobo manual

There is nowhere to display a Q-Code on my mobo.
  7. Have you tried to reseat the card? No beeping sound etc?

No beeping sound at all. I have tried reseating the card multiple times.
  9. You have plugged the monitor into the graphics card and not the motherboard right?
  10. Check the EZ debug LED's

i was just thinking this, because i did the same thing after unplugging everything to clean it and it didn't work after i pluged it back up and i was freaking out lol. just to realize i had the hdmi cable in the mobo by accident

Yes, the DVI cord is plugged into the Graphics card

The DRAM light is lit up. This doesnt light up when the graphics card is out of the motherboard.

[EDIT]: Motherboard manual says: "DRAM - indicates DRAM is not detected or fail."
  14. Ye, but that sounds "funny" when you can bot up without the GPU.

Did you try to remove a stick at a time - Long fetch but may give it a go.

Yes, Ive tried that. Ive tried removing the ram and stuff, it does nothing, apart from just cause another issue, because the ram is installed incorrectly...
It works fine without the GPU, but it doesnt with the GPU.
  16. I dont know, how the mobo would behave, if the Integrated graphic Card is set as default in the bios, and not the PCI port.

What? You used commas weirdly there... I dont know what you're trying to say, please rephrase.
  18. I dont know how the mobo would behave if the Integrated graphic Card is set as default in the bios and not the PCI port.

You may have a faulty Card.

I changed around the default settings on the bios to see if that would change anything (the default graphics) but nada, nothing.

You dont have an old card to test the mobo ?
  21. Have you tried a different PCIe slot on the motherboard??
  22. Is this a new build? Or are you just upgrading your GPU?

Also, have you updated to the latest BIOS version?
