I just had a friend give me his pc it is only 2 years old and in great condition. There is nothing wrong it. But I dnt have monitors and only have a 1080p TV. New to pc gaming and only know the basics. The card is a radeon hd 8570. It has a dvi out and hdmi out. But the hdmi does not work. Have used a dvi to hdmi adaptor with no success. Does this I have to buy a monitor with dvi ports on it. Or can I just replace the video card for a new one. My friend has mentioned he never used the hdmi only the dvi ports from card to monitor.

Something similar happened to me with AMD card. HDMI not working (I think) so I has to use the second port in it. I bought reduction - simply, it is a small "box," from one side it's HDMI, from second, it's DVI for example. That helped to me... So you'll use the same port, just with the reduction.
