PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

Tier listings are the result of comprehensive testing and disassembly in some cases to examine parts identity for quality. The lower tier numbers (1 and 2) are the highest quality. The EVGA I listed is, of course, tier 1.

I don't pay attention to tiers because too often a broad based Tier is assigned to a whole series of PSUs based upon the review of one model, and the rest of the line too often is undeserving. For my builds, I want to see the specific model go thru a complete tear down review or at least verify that the model I am considering is on the same OEM platform as the reviewed model. The other problem is manufacturers / vendors often switch OEMs and the tier list is rarely update to account for this.

case in point ... your RM850.

The original RM 850 (75-001938 / CP-9020056) was made by Chicony on a custom platform, likely the result of an in-house Corsair design. It was followed up with a slightly revised design after s/n 1341xxxxx. The Chicony built units suffered from the use of Ltec capacitors. The V2 version and the i version were made by CWT, the V2 being a modification of the HXi/RMi/RMx platform

Chicony - Build Quality = 8.5

Interestingly enough, Corsair's premium unit, the 1200xi has the highest failure rate inthe industry at 10%

My go to units are the Seasonic 750 and 1050 Silent Snow Edition; next up, the Seasonic X Series. The EVGA G2 / P2 and some have a few 10/10 or 9.5/10 rated units also tho I have G2 1000 which is a bit noisy (fan) ... not as noisy as when it was new, but still the loudest thing in the PC.
