Need help deciding on a CPU

I have everything required for my new build, except for the CPU and have saving up for a INTEL. But recently I saw a sale on Newegg for a AMD .

The price of the AMD is cheaper than the INTEL while also having a total of eight cores. What is the reason why the AMD is 170$ but the INTEL is 220$? What I have currently and purchased is this. The only difference is the GPU has 4gb instead of 2gb and a 2tb HDD instead of 1tb.

This build is going to be primarily used for gaming, I would want a recommendation for which CPU I should buy on that basis. I will also be doing small bits of recording in which I don't really care if one or another will help that by a small bit; I'm not recording seriously, just to save small bits of what happens during my experience.

Thank you very much for reading, and a response would be appreciated. Have a nice day.

The cores matter very little.

What would have been helpful was if you provided the model of the Intel and AMD processors. Note that the two types require different motherboards.

Most Intel processors outperform AMD processors in gaming environments.

The 4690k is the stronger CPU, especially for gaming. Intel's per-core performance is much higher than AMDs, so the 4690k will be much better in lightly-thread loads (which typically includes gaming), and probably still a little better in heavily threaded loads.

That being said, with a GTX 960 you'll probably be GPU-bound rather than CPU-bound, so you might not notice much difference between the two in games.

It's been close to 4 years since I have been able to justify an AMD based build over Intel.

For gaming the 4690k is just fine.... the 4790k would be preferred if you were doing video editing or anything else that benefitted much from the extra threads.

In the future I would suggest that you not buy MoBo and CPU separately as you only have a 30 day window to return things to your seller.
