Does the Resolution even matter?

Hello! I had a bazar experience. I have a I think 50" HDTV with a resolution of 1920x1080 and I saw alot of "Pixels" and jagged edges, I have been tinkering around with this tv for a couple months now and I can't seem to find a setting on the tv or my computer to fix it or Supress it. Now when I play on my 12"-24" (I'm not certain) monitor the image is Perfect and the resolution is at 1280x1024. Now I thought why does a monitor with lower resolution have a (In my opinion) better image quality then a HDTV?

think of it this way. you have a bunch of cookies evenly laid out on a 5 inch plate and there is very very tiny gaps between the cookies that you cant see. then lets say you get a 10 inch plate, the distance between the cookies has been doubled and now you can see the gaps between the cookies(pixles) get it? a bigger TV does not have more pixels than one of the same resolution but in a smaller size

if your up close and personal(lets say 8-10 inches generally from the monitor when gaming i would go with a 21-24 inch. the further away you are the better and sharper things will look, the bigger the monitor the further away you want to be
