How can I backup my internal hard drive raid array?

You should be able to backup your data without any issues to the 6 TB external drive! Since your RAID 5 is composed of 3 x 2 TB HDDs, you'd be able to use only 4 TB for storage, whereas the other 2 TB will be used for protection/fault tolerance (in RAID 5 it is also known as parity).
Good job with the backup intentions, though! Often, users rely on the fact that it's RAID and don't consider backing it up. However, it's essential that you do that because arrays are not a backup solution for your data!
