How to get an SSD working properly?

Alright well I bought a 120 GB Kingston SSD for my computer. I connected the SATA cable from the SSD to a SATA slot on the motherboard and I have a SATA power connector in the SSD. The problem is that Windows (Windows 10 to be exact) doesn't detect it at all and I'm not sure if it's a problem on the computer's side, the SSD's side, or my side. Any advice on the steps I should be taking to get this SSD working would be great.

I do not intend on loading Windows necessarily on this SSD (at least not yet anyway). I just want it to be able to store files but it doesn't show up in my list of drives in file explorer. My computer is an h8-1410 from HP.

darkbreeze was right. All I had to do was go to Disk Management and format the drive. I feel so silly now but the problem is fixed so that's good.
