hey so im looking to move from my current amd set-up to a intel set-up but im really not sure which path to go down. my current rig is fx6300, gigabyte ga-78lmt-usb3, 8gb kingston hyperX 2400mhz ram, r9 290 4gb, cooler master rs-700watt psu, with 1tb seagate hard drive with windows 7 64-bit.
ive been doing a little research and i want to move my motherboard and cpu over to intel and eventually get a gtx 970/980 but for now i want to just change the motherboard and cpu over. but with ddr4 out now im not sure weather i should stick with ddr3 ram or go with ddr4.
will ddr4 give me a good increase on gaming performance and what processors/motherboards should i consider.
i was looking at a i5-4690k and a gigabyte z97p-d3 motherboard which is ddr3 ram but is it worth spending the little extra to go for ddr4 ram with the new 7th gen intel processors.
any help would be much appreciated...also i dont mind upgrading to a i3 processor for now if the price is a lot higher and upgrading to a i5/i7 in time. i have around £220-£250 to spend and im hoping to upgrade early next week. also if i move to ddr4 i would have to purchase new ram. but the clock frequency of ddr4 is a lot higher than ddr3

Help haha....

Well, yes, with DDR4 you will notice a improvement, but 4th generation is still good at today.

My recommendation: Go for skylake, and WAIT to new GPU cards, but if your really need one, go for 980Ti (Only, if you're playing at 1440p or higher. 980Ti for 1080p is a little overkill, but you will be able to full everything).

i currently only play at 1080p and i dont think i will go any bigger or better than that to be fair, i just want a gpu to max out all new titles i play and a cpu/motherboard to match. so skylake is the new socket 1151 processors, is there any certain processors or motherboards to check out? ive only ever had one intel build and that was a 1155 socket i3 3220 so its been a long time since ive used them, also what size ram and frequency should i look for. cheers

i5 6600(k) , and motherboard they're a lot of it, its your choice. See motherboard compatibles with 1151 in pcpartpicker.com.

About ram: Well, for gaming always is recommended 8gb-16gb, depends your budget

Note: Going for sykale is a little expensive, but worth. About GPU, think about waiting the new GPU cards coming.

like i said in my post im looking to spend around £220-£250 and the i5-6600k processor is around £200 which would leave me with between £20-£50 for ram and a motherboard.... dilemma haha

yeah my idea is to upgrade my psu eventually but money restricted what i could afford to buy in the first hand. yeah the pc is just for gaming and this is my problem i dont know which generation to go for because i want the best i can get for the money i have for gaming. even if i got a i3 cpu on the 1150 socket range im guessing that would be a good step towards upgrading from my fx-6300...what do you think
