(an updated version of my question to put of the trolls)

Hello,
I'm having this "windows not genuine" problem, a friend of mine will try to fix it in the coming days.
I just wanted to ask some feedback on the official MS fix (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2008385), if there're people here who tried to fix it this way.

Of course, my Windows is genuine.

In other words, don't answer this thread if you:
1. Never heard of this problem on genuine Windows 7
2. Heard or read about it but have no actual experience fixing it.

If you meet the above criteria, you don't have to read further.
For those who know what I'm talking about, a short history of this issue on my computer:
I did several rearms, always when the problem reoccurred (5 times or so), and now it says I have exceeded the number of rearms so I have to try some other solution. I know there're many fixes in internet, apart from the official one, but most of them are too complex for me (I'm just an ordinary PC user) and those, which I was able to try, didn't work.

Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences with this fix (that is again, if you don't have any, don't answer).

Of course, my Windows is genuine.

And where did you obtain this from? How do you know it is 'genuine'?

I've never seen a genuine OS license that displayed "windows not genuine" and was not resolved with validating over the phone robot, or in rare cases, calling and talking to an MS human.

There is no 'fix'. Either it is or it isn't. And MS is the only entity who can validate.

Both if you above, please use google to inform yourself.
Then read last sentence of my post and ask yourself whether you have anything to say.
To anyone else:
Before you answer, pls ask yourself whether you know what I'm talking about. If not, you can spare yourself the effort.

The last sentence (or two) of your post:
"Of course, my Windows is genuine.
Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences with this fix.
Kat "

Is it actually genuine? From where did you obtain this?

"Lighten up Francis". People are trying to assist. If you're going to be combative then I wish you luck on your quest.

Have you or have you not called the phone number given and talked to Microsoft? If not, do so.
Have you or have you not been to the Genuine Advantage site and used the validation tool? If not, do so.

RE: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2008385
Assuming the cause is one of those listed then yes, this will correct the problem. However, unless you know exactly what you are doing in and around both the registry and policy editors I suggest you not try this yourself.

I'd rather call it trolling. But I already know it's always like this when you post a question here. People who know something have probably better things to do than sit on a forum so it takes a while until they answer.

I'm gonna do this if my friend is unable to solve it. He's a programmer and I trust him. I've seen some people saying they got it fixed by MS support by remote access.

Ok, thanks, I will try this. Never heard of this site, it wasn't mentioned in any articles I read on that issue so I don't put much hope into it but will try.

Again, I trust my friend.

Since you've already decided to trust your friend why bother asking for assistance here?

And, you don't get to set the conditions under which members can reply. Any member is free to reply in any thread, as long as they follow the site rules.

As this thread has now become pointless it's time to close it.

Even though this thread was closed, I wanted to add something.

This "I did several rearms, always when the problem reoccurred (5 times or so), and now it says I have exceeded the number of rearms so I have to try some other solution." is only done when you do not enter the Windows license key and just modify a file to extend the "trial" period. Seems that part of the description was not caught in the solutions.

Therefore the solution to this issue is to enter the product key from the "Of course, my Windows is genuine." disk and activate the key online or call MS support. If you actually entered the key when you installed Windows then I'd like to know why you had to use that rearm trial period extending method?

1. I didn't ask for solutions.
2. None were provided, people didn't even bother to click the MS link to learn what this thread is about (not that it would enable them to share practical experience with the fix). Seems you didn't click it either but you're thinking in the right direction, as I know now, after having resolved the problem.

So let me explain.
The cause in my case was apparently "2. Missing registry keys. One of more of these registry keys may be missing"

This would help only temporarily since the license would be deleted again after some time.

Because the license was missing, which I didn't know at the time. Frankly, I didn't even know "rearm" does what you say, I just followed an instruction in a youtube video and it worked.

Now, why the license was missing.

As you can read on some tech blogs (strangely, MS doesn't mention it), there was a faulty update by MS which apparently deletes your license. MS allegedly issued another update afterwards which was supposed to somehow rectify this. I have downloaded all updates to the date but for some reason, it didn't help. Also in the official MS fix they don't offer any update so I don't know how reliable this info about the fixing update is. The part about the issue being caused be an earlier update seems to be correct though.

Anyway, what I did is I first entered the product key (by clicking "enter a different key"), it got validated and the message "Win not genuine" disappeared. Then in order to prevent it from being deleted again, my friend applied the "Method C: Add Registry Key" from the MS fix.
Obviously I have no way to know at this point whether it worked. If the problem reoccurs I will know it didn't. But I trust it will, if MS says so. :)

I won't answer anymore in this thread and am removing my profile here. So anybody who wants to know more, just use google, there're tons of articles about this issue.
Hope this post will at least be useful to those who may be looking for what I was looking for originally.
