Hi everyone!

Im new to overclocking and I just change my mobo from a Biostar TA970 to a Gigabyte 990fx-gaming.

Here my setup:
CPU: Fx6300
GPU: 2x powercolor radeon R9 280 in crossfire
Motherboard: Gigabyte 990fx-gaming

The setup run on 2 differents 850w psu due to the power demand. The first one provide power to the cpu, board and main gpu the second one give power to the second gpu and the external fans.

I have been able to overclock on my old board a Biostar TA970, making the FX6300 running a stable 4.3mhz at 1.325V with NorthBrige at 1.225V but I think thats pretty much what the board can do, even if I have low temp. And high voltage (1.5v) the system was not stable. Here's why I changed my mobo as my target is more around 4.5 to 4.6Mhz. That and the 2x 16x pcie slots.

I would like to have more details on how to overclock using the Gigabyte UEFI dualbios. Any guidelines would be really appreaciated. Especially on the power options I have to turn off.
Im also looking for more information on overclocking in general so I can understand what Im doing and why Im doing it!

It when pretty smootly with my TA970 but I see the 990fx-gaming has alot more options and Im a little bit lost with thoses!

Thanks
Hugo

Solution
Might simply start with the vCore (CPU voltage) set to 1.3, then gradually take the CPU multiplier up, checking for stability and temps as you go. When it starts crashing, 'll need more vCore and continue

I have the Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P which is basically the smaller version of the 990fx-gaming, but without the gaming features.
I suggest using offset voltages so that your CPU isn't always overclocked to 4.XXGhz when you're just using notepad or surfing. Adding +0.100 to the NB Voltage helps with stability. Also using the FSB/BCLK to OC would offer better performance overall. Using a combination of the FSB/BCLK and the Multiplier would yeild the best performance. Turn all of the power saving options on except for APM. It will increase the life of your CPU. Also disable turbo.

Ask me any questions if you have any
