Hello folks im back after 3 solid builds and im looking for a challenge :)

The heavens blessed me with a G5 and it is indeed marvelous engineering with breathtaking design but.. it's also ancient!

I found some weird stuff.. still can't explain what it was in the case and between the components.. but it's brighty and shiny new inside and out.

First problem is the Bluetooth isn't working so my shiny new Wireless Apple keyboard isn't useful at the moment.

And i need a keyboard for the installation but my Bro got a USB keyboard and hes bringing it tomorrow so that's solved tomorrow i hope so i can finish the setup and to check the specs :)

Yes i know the specs are mindblowing.. hush please this is a work of Art! anyways i was wondering what a 1.8 ghz dated from 2004 can handle ?

I was thinking about a passive AMD 7770 or Nvidia 650 or maybe 750 ? or is something like a 610 the max for this machine ?

The G5 has a FX5200 i think and i wont use the mac for anything from the last 7 years but Dragon age Origins or Fable TLC might be fun or some MOBA.

Excuse me for my rambling.. im just excited and the Mac keeps glaring at me with all it's shiny glory that it wants to be used.

Thanks for any information and for the fact Toms haven't kicked me so far.. Thank U Tom's :)

You are in for a rude awakening. You can't just slap any ol' PC graphics card into a PowerPC Mac and expect it to work. First off make sure that the PowerMac is PCIe and NOT AGP. Next thing is you'll have to do is scour the internet for used Mac *PowerPC* cards. You also can't take a graphics card from an Intel Mac and slap it into a PowerPC. Some people have made a business out of reflashing PC cards with Mac firmware, but I think you'd have problems finding someone still churning out GPUs for a 2004 vintage machine.

Ah thanks again and that 9600 looks exactly like the card that's in my Mac :)

I heard and seen some folks who have an AMD 5000 serie in their Macs so maybe that will spice it up a bit ;)

Thanks and after my brother brought a KB with him we will check out the specs of this G5 and work from there ;)

Keynotes are.

Check type of card and then check gpu's from around that time like Nvidia 400 and AMD 5000.

If it goes BooM or Pooff.. that means it's time for Hackintoshy :)
