I have a gtx 980 and the "ti" is even better. I can run every game i play at 80 or more fps. So if your going to upgrade gtx is gonna get you the best for the cash, though amd is cheaper. So what you need to ask yourself is do you want to spend a little more and get a really good card, or do you want to spend a little less and get a card that is still good but a step down from the 980ti. I know most people will only look at the specs online and say that the 390 may be better but i have a friend that runs a 390 and a friend that runs two 980ti strix in parralell and gtx is going to win out on frame rate every time. My single 980 runs Just cause 3 at 70fps so that gives you an idea what one will do, and the fact that some games like JC3 were having issues with amd cards when it first came out. Game makers are always going to shoot for Nvidia before amd, thats just how it is. So my opinion is, go for a GTX 980ti and if you have extra money to spend get the Strix edition.
