Hey guys! Thanks for the reading... I have a buddy who but together a budget build 6 months ago and is ready to make some upgrades... :

We are pretty sure a Mobo/CPU upgrade is the best idea... But we are concerned about transitioning the OS over to new hardware, we've heard it can be challenging and sometimes require new storage & OS? Open to any and all upgrade suggestions. Specs Below:

CPU: AMD A10 7850K
GPU: Gigabyte 750ti
Motherboard: MSI A68HM-E33 V2 FM2+ AMD A68H
Ram: 8 GB 1600
Storage: WD Blue 1TB & PNY 128gb
Cooler: 212 Evo
OS: Windows 8.1 (free upgrade to 10)

It depends on what your budget is and what you're mainly going to be doing on the PC. I would suggest upgrading the video card (assuming you have a sufficient power supply) if you are using it mainly for gaming. Otherwise, like you said, upgrading the Mobo/CPU will come at a cost of a new OS license for Windows. This is the way Windows handles it, so there's nothing you can really do about it besides looking for a cheap key online.

I'm not sure what your budget is, but getting an i5/z170 Mobo combo will yield great improvements for CPU-intensive tasks. That same money could be spent on an r9 390 or gtx 970 as well, so like I said before, it depends on what you will use the PC for.
