Already got the video card Asus STRIX-R9380-DC2OC-2GD5. And I am looking at the EVGA 750 4 12v rails power supply ( EVGA 110-B1-0750-VR 80 )will that work for me? I had a older 650 watt power supply and failed after about 10 minutes.

Solution

you want a good 550w

stay away from the evga b1, and g1 they are not good

I recommend these:

Yeah that should be plenty of power. The main thing is to have a reputable manufacturer when it comes to power supplies. I don't know what your budget is, but with that graphics card, even a 500 W power supply will be fine.

The 380 only requires 300w to run since the two 6-in power are both 150w. So even a 600w is more than enough. Your old psu probably is near death and can't even push out minimal power.

I was thinking to use this PSU for the same card: http://www.amazon.de/quiet-BN140-System-Power-Stromversorgung/dp/B00ABKSQGO/ Is that OK?

I was wondering though: is there a picoPSU 80+ option to deliver 300W? From what I've seen around, I think not. I have also not been able to find a 300w PSU for my Antec ISK 300-150, thus I'd go for an external additional PSU like the BN140

I am really not the one to ask as I myself had to come here help. But I think anything below a 450 watt power supply would be to small. And also make sure it has two 8 pin connectors if it is the same card as mine, and of course any connectors needed for your motherboard.

Thanks for answering anyway frogman. Thing is, this PSU will be used only by the GPU as I want to power it externally this way, thus I thought that 300w with 80+ bronze would be enough. Is that not the case? I don't want an underpowered card but if I understand correctly with an 80+ rating those 300w are delivered correctly.

I understand now (two power supplies). I am surely not the one to answer that, I still got a lot to learn. But good luck my friend, would like to hear your solution when you find it.

The only thing I didn't consider important is the absence of a 6+2 PCIe power output, so now I am wondering if I can combine the existing power outputs (spin-off thread: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2994362/connect-external-psu-380x.html)
