im working on a new build first one actualy im pretty satisfied with what ive came up with and ive taken quite a few cuts to get the price down but i want it under 900 and i cant do that with a new psu http://pcpartpicker.com/p/j7GyJx any help would be awesome i really dont want this thing to pop when its all said and done the only two things im keeping are the ram and the psu from my original pc theyre both terrible but i cant afford to replace them atm also anythoughts on 1600hz ram being a bottleneck/ significant fps drop for any reason?

Solution
No, it only has 30 amps on the 12 volt rail and the quality is poor. A good quality 550 watt unit will have 40-45 amps. You need more power and higher quality for an R9 390.

The power supply is the most important part of a PC. The problem isn't that you can't afford a new PSU, it's that you can't afford the 4690K *and* the 390 *and* the SSD. Cutting a safe, dependable power supply to up the CPU and GPU is like not getting the shot brakes in your car fixed because you really want a sunroof installed with that money instead. Now, you don't need some platinum-efficiency PSU or anything, but you do need something safe that's not firmly in the junk tier.

Yep thaT PSU IS SHIT YOU WILL END UP REGRETTING IT LATER WHEN IT AGES SOME AND STARS TO GIVE YOU INTERMITTENT ISSUES AND THEN FAILS. sry caps to lazy to fix. Never ever skimp on the psuif its a bad one it could kill your whole system then taht 900 you just spent will be a pretty doorstop. People do this all the time very sective on components then get a cheap psu and wonder what happened skim a few forums and you will see it a million times here.
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html any of the tier 1 or 2 is good for gaming if budgets a huge concern you could get away with a tier 3 but i wouldnt stress it with over clocking or long gaming sessions

Don't take what these guys are telling you lightly. That psu is horrible, and could damage your entire system. Do not use it even temporarily.

Seriously, don't use it.

Now on a side note, don't buy an i5 4690k and $80 Z97 motherboard. Buy an i5 4460 or 4590 and a B85 or H97 motherboard instead. The money you save there, without any performance loss, would buy you a GOOD psu.

It actually comes out cheaper. You could drop to the i5 4460 and buy a new 2x4GB RAM kit and still come out less than your parts list.

agreed i was really hoping it wasnt that terrible of a psu but i did my research and its garbage so i fit a 650w thermaltake smart series PSU into budget. It is hard getting this whole set up staying under a grand mind u my budget was 600:p that went out the window when i read benchmarks on 390s and realized its pointless to run a gpu made for 1440p atleast on my 1024 res monitor:p

Honestly i did plan on upgrading ram eventualy just not now since i have 8gbs of 1600 however i contemplated downgrading my cpu for a non k cpu since i dont plan on overclocking but ive read too much on the 4690k being a great cpu i feel like the 390 and that cpu will run beautifuly together u dont imagine theyred be a difference in performance between the 4690k and the 4460?
