Trying to find a way to get better signal for my USB Wifi Adapter

I recently got a faster internet package (150mbps) through my provider, but I'm having a bit of a tough time managing to actually access much of it with my USB-N53 adapter. I've been working with my router settings (a RT-N53), and managed to hit an average of 35 mbps (ipv4)/ 47 (ipv6) with it. Considering the location of the adapter, behind the PC case and with the rest of the computer desk in the way, I'm trying to figure out a good way to get into the clear. Something of a three foot cable would be fine, but I don't really have anyplace or any way to keep it sitting up or anything.

Are there any, I dunno, extension cable 'base' units that might help out? Probably would want to make sure it's USB 3.0 compatible, just to ensure that I get what speed I can out of it. Or would switching to a PCI-E card be better?

You can also just get a usb dongle thingy as asus describes it it is just a usb extension cable then you would be able to move your adapter from behind the PC to lay on top or some where.
https://www.asus.com/us/Networking/USBN53/ look towards the bottom where it says enhanced Reception.
