After upgrading to 970A-UD3P from the N68C-GS FX first day it ran fine but the next day morning it wouldn't even boot. Windows 8.1 was installed on an 128GB SSD and I was using an 1TB HDD for storage. I did not install new windows after changing motherboards or even install the new drivers because it had worked without. Windows boots and works fine if I disconnect the HDD even though it had worked in the past on the last motherboard without any issues.

Specs:
CPU - AMD FX6300 (Hyper 212 EVO)
GPU - Nvidia GTX 750ti
RAM - 4x4GB (Total of 16GB)
Mobo - 970A-UD3P
PSU - 500W (SL-500A)

Solution

OK, unplug the HDD that is causing problems.
Turn off all security disable firewall.
Put the windows disk in the drive and select "upgrade."
This will...

Yes, I am certain

Hi

If UEFI/BIOS definitely sets SSD as boot device it seems your HDD has died or is corrupted

Try the HDD in a USB tray and see if it can be tested using Western Digital data lifeguard 4 windows
(does not matter if not a WD HDD, Seagate make a similar Windows diagnostic program)

If HDD passes a full scan then run chkdsk on the HDD
If it fails replace it ?
How old is the HDD?
is it still under manufacturers warrantee ? (usually 1, 2 or 3 years - occasionally 5 years)

Western Digital data lifeguard's scans yielded "pass", did a "chkdsk /f", it found some errors and presumably fixed them.
The drive is as old as they can be, it belongs in a museum.

OK, unplug the HDD that is causing problems.
Turn off all security disable firewall.
Put the windows disk in the drive and select "upgrade."
This will configure the new hardware.
This will NOT erase your files or programs.

After you get re-configured, plug the HDD back in.
Turn security and firewall back ON.

After you change hardware, it must be re-configured.
Running "upgrade" is the easiest way to re-configure the hardware.
And this will not harm the existing programs or files.
