Will Radeon R7 260X be slow on PCIEX4 slot?

I have got a Gigabyte 970A-DS3P motherboard, unfortunately the first slot PCIEX16 is no longer working. I have to put my graphic card (Radeon R7 260X) on PCIEX4. It works but my question is - will my graphic card perform badly compared to last time? If previously the performance is running at 100% then now it will run at what %? Thank you.

Replacing the motherboard is pretty much not optional, but if the root cause was actually the graphics (as in the fan did not break because the motherboard shorted), that should also go. Note that if the graphics card is new it should be under warranty (not sure now that you spliced in a new fan), and some motherboards have fairly long warranties too.

4x will decrease performance, though not by much on a weak card like the 260x. You SHOULD replace the motherboard though, since slot failure could be due to serious issues like excessive power draw from the pcie slot (which will only get worse on 4x, unless the 16x power pins are properly set up)

Hi, thanks for your concern but the reason why PCIEX16 is not working is due to the Graphic Card fan failure. In result it burnt that x16 slot. Fortunately my Graphic card survived though...replaced the fan. Actually you said slower not by much but from your guess how much % reduction? Thanks

Before you worry about how much slower it will be, worry about frying your computer again! At this point it's not an issue of performance, rather reliability.

Okay thanks. I will diagnose the hardwares one by one. Firstly will try to use another graphic card and run it for a couple days to see how it goes. Because after changing slot now the computer randomly restart while playing game or web browsing.
