Hi all.
I already own one gtx 970 G1 Gaming. So the question is... Whould it be better to upgrade to one 390X (the strix edition) or buy one more 970?
Many people whuld ask me... Why do you want to upgrade your 970 you are fine for now.... Yes i want to upgrade because i am a bit upset with the 3,5 GB issue, i had a bad experience with coil whine and i had to rma my gpu 3 times and the last replacement came with a bended backplate but i fixed it a bit (it is still bended). In my opinion the 390 and 390x outperform the 970 and the 8gigs of vram are more futureproof. I am not planning to play in higher resolution than 1080p but i want high frame rates because i have one 144hz monitor so what dou you think? Sorry for my bad English
Thank you all...!!

Wow, great rig. Yeah, definitely consider purchasing a 980 Ti. You will be so incredibly happy with the performance. Even when I play GTA 5 on my 3440 x 1440 resolution display, I only hit 3.8 GB of VRAM. In order to saturate all 6 GB of GPU VRAM, I'd need to enable Nvidia DSR (Dynamic Super Resolution) and push it all the way up to 2.5x. Insane.

Honestly upgrading now would probably become something you regret soon, pascal and polaris are coming out soon this year, you should wait and get a much better card then, seeing as the difference between the 390x and 970 is going to be negligible.
If you are set on upgrading right this minute, it is worth noting that VRAM DOES NOT ADD UP IN SLI. You would end up with 2 970 gpus with 3.5 gb of frame buffer between them. The 390x might be a better choice, but you would not get even close to the performance of two 970s- it might be better than one 970 by a small margin, but the difference between one 970 and two would be HUGE in comparison.

Why not sell/return your current 970 and buy a 980ti or furyx?

The 390x isn't exactly an upgrade over a 970 (considering price : performance and you already have a 970)
You will still be stuck with the same amount of vram going with SLI.

^ Agreed. @Stratis, a GTX 980 Ti would be a perfect match for a 1080p 144 Hz display. I hate to be a sticker for detail, but would you mind listing your full specs, including your power supply manufacturer and model #, display model #, and all other specs? I just want to make sure that your build is well balanced for a 980 Ti.

That looks like a really good fit for a 980 ti, no bottlenecks, I would recommend you do go for a 980 ti, it seems like the card you are most likely to get on with if you are set on buying right now
