What would work better? An Overclocked i3 6100 or a i5 6500 (Stock clock) I want to do alot of 1080p 60fps gaming and a lil photo editing. Would the i5 6500 @ 3.2ghz do better then a i3 6100 @ 4+ghz? Thsnks for help! (Also will pair with a gtx 960 2gb)

Solution
It all depends on threads. Using only two cores, the i3 will be faster, to some extent (not the pure difference in speed)

Modern gaming is using more and more threads, and photo editing certainly does that too. An i3 is about equivalent to a three core i5 So in raw throughput, which is not a perfect guide, you would be comparing 3 x 4.0 (12) with 4 x 3.2 = 12.8 For equivalent throughput, the i3 would needs to reach 4.3 Ghz.

For now and the future, I'd go with the i5.

I'm assuming that you have a budget that limits you to i3 + Z170 board or i5 + H170 board. If you post your complete parts list, we may be able to get you i5 + Z170 board :)

Also, I might be getting a gtx 760 for $80 so i can fit a z170 and i5 if that all goes to plan!

I see you already cut every corner possible, and the PSU is too low-performance. This is about the cheapest cost PSU that also is powerful enough that I would use. 550W is more than you need, but nothing smaller is good enough. There are many places to save a little money OTHER than your PSU. It is the engine of your computer and a good one may last two or three builds.

Hmm okay.. Ill see what i can i do about a 600w psu.. Thank you for the help.. I appriciate it alot!

I think you're misinterpreting what he's saying. Rated wattage doesn't matter, it's other stuff that matters. you can read about it here: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2958896/guide-low-quality-power-supply.html

A tractor and a race car may both have 800HP engines, the tractor engine is low-performance, the race-car engine is high performance. 600W is plenty, even 550W is plenty of power, but you have picked a lower performance 'tractor' PSU when you are building a high-performance 'race-car' computer. I suggested an appropriate PSU for your needs.

Check out this part list.
I changed some things.
An IPS monitor have 16.7m of display colors, vs the 262.144 colors, so that will help you in photo editing. Here you have a post about TN vs IPS monitor https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/15389-whats-the-difference-in-color-between-an-ips-and-a-tn/ here a video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWXcNlh85Ps
The Corsair PSU gives you more space for future upgrades and better overall performance and less noice.
Those 2 4GB sticks will give you better performance for photo editing and probably in some games too.
And the other parts are ok, I would change the 2GB GPU for the 4 GB model, but anyways it would work.

As I mentioned above, the Corsair CX range of PSUs is unsuitable for this build. A higher performance unit is needed.

Thank you! I will probably use that for my build.. The only reason im getting a 2gb gtx 760 if because i found one on craigslist for only 70 bucks. I knew id probably need a better monitor and duel channeling ram.. But i was still a bit confused with the psu. I appriciate the help!

xD Would a 600w bronze 80+ evga psu work all right?

I would not use it for that purpose. It's great for business and home use. I would want something better for gaming. Seasonic and XFX sell good PSUs and the EVGA 110-B2-0750-VR I suggested, is a lot more powerful than you need, but it is one of the cheapest high performance PSUs.

Since I am on a tight budget i think that going with this psu will work fine. I have only heard good think about them.. I also wont be overclocking my cpu since intel is starting to get rid of non k overclocking. Also the stock i3 6100 wont have to last forever as i do plan upgrade in the future.. Heres the build I am diffently thinking about: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/NYXg23
