Limited connectivity issue, but maybe not as straightforward as you may think :)

Hi there

Hoping someone can help me with this.

I can connect perfectly well to my router (BT Hub 5) using both ethernet and wifi connections.
My father can do the same on his laptop and we can do the same using mobile devices.
I have bought a new wifi extender as the area in the house where I spend a lot of my time is teetering on one bar of wifi (BT Hub 5) so looking to extend it.
When on EE previously, it worked fine and had no problem.
We are on Fibre Optic by the way - doubt that makes a difference though - anyway...
So, I can set up / configure the extender to the router no problem and have positioned it so I get the "good range" light on and everything is fine there.
I can connect using my lappy to the extender using the ethernet cable fine and so can my father.
I can also see the connections (bt2 and bt5 - pertaining to 2.4ghz connection and 5.ghz connection) on my android (however only the 2.4ghz comes up on the lappy's but not an issue!
My father can also connect to the extender (and get full internet access) by using his wifi connection, however - I cannot !!!
I have updated my Wifi adapter from the manufacturers website and have no yellow exclamation marks within Device Manager... but the puzzle is why can I connect to the router directly, connect to the extender directly but not to the internet (get passed LIMITED) when my father can do it??

Hoping someone can help me before I throw it all out of the window!!

Many thanks in advance.

Can't quite make out what the issue is, there is one laptop that can't connect to that extender, is that what is going on? Did you check for updated chipset, BIOS and wifi card drivers for the laptop? If you only see the 2.4 ghz connection on the laptop, that means it's only a 2.4 ghz network card, it can't see the 5ghz signal.

I'm guessing your laptop is a bit older, try a USB network card on it. You can bet a small dongle that does not stick out much.

Hi there

OK - got you about why it only sees the 2.4ghz connection, thanks for clearing that up.

The main issue is that just one device won't connect to the extender then router then internet. It sees and connects to the extender but that's as far as it goes (Limited). All other devices connect fine.
I got updated wifi adapter card drivers from Acer, but that's all.
The attached image is what I found on the Manufacturers website and the red cross indicates what I've downloaded and installed...

Well, the plot thickens - I changed a setting somewhere within the properties but now the extender connection in the Networking section (bottom right of task bar) shows my main connection fine (and still works fine) but the extender connection has a big red X on it and I can't even click it now :( I think unless I get a solution I'll just buy a new laptop and bin this one lol - it is about 3 years old.... boo to me !! Thanks for any help.
