Should i upgrade my graphics card now or wait until the new gen come out? I have a xfx hd7850 that's thermal throttling under gaming. Im trying to hold out for the next generation gpus but i dont want to continue pushing this card. I was thinking of getting r9 fury x. Any suggestions?

Solution
I would wait for Pascal from nvidia according to specs they say it will be 10x faster even if it is only 2x faster it will be worth the wait.
As for AMD Polaris is due mid 2016 how will it compare to Pascal is anyone's guess.
Release date should be mid 2016 for both cards if what they say about Polaris is true best not bother with current video cards as these 2 will be faster by a very large margin.
If what AMD saying is true the first Polaris card should show up in April.

...and if your 7850 is throttling, we need to make sure you've got sufficient cooling in your case. So don't forget to mention what case you have, and what your cooling setup is. If the 7850 is throttling, something like a 980 Ti might have problems too...unless as @dangus suggests, it's an issue with the card rather than case cooling.

To answer your original question, I would try to solve your current cooling problem rather than investing in technology that will soon be outdated. To address the cooling problem there are some things you can try. First, as @dangus suggests, you can try reapplying the thermal paste between your cooler and the GPU (by the way, what brand and model of 7850 do you have?) If your case allows, you can also add some fans to it. You could also also try a PCI slot cooler like this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835888112 (not recommending this necessarily, just an example.)
EDIT: Actually this isn't the best example, it's a PCI (not PCIe) slot cooler. But you get the idea.
When buying fans, the higher the "CFM" rating is the more it will cool - but it will also be louder.

Also a lot of cooling problems can be solved by just blowing the dust out of your case and fans.

Yea i plan to re apply the thermal paste and see if that helps. I blew out all the dust already and i keep it clean on a week or two basis. Its a xfx radeon hd7850. Il look into those pci fans

By the way, how do you know you have a thermal problem? Have you been monitoring temps with Speedfan or a similar program? Speedfan will sometimes let you ramp up your case fans, depending on how they're connected. For increasing the fan speed of your GPU, you may have to look at something like MSI Afterburner (not sure what the AMD equivalent would be.)

So fix your thermal issue with the 7850.

If you're wanting to increase graphic performance, you're limited by the FX 6300. Really anything higher than a 960/770 GTX or a r9 280/280x would be bottlenecked by the FX 6300. Thus you would need to upgrade the CPU to fully support higher cards.

Also, the PSU you have pretty poor in quality. I would honestly upgrade that first before even considering upgrading the GPU. It doesn't get much worse than RaidMax power supplies.

Stick to Tier 1 or Tier 2 supplies:
