First, please let me tell you that I did an online search for this to no avail.
I installed a fresh new copy of Win 7 64 bit on a fresh new SSD in an old mobo in *AHCI mode*
It works perfectly fine.
Once installed, I wanted to add my old hard disks to the system.
When I physically connect the old disks after logging to windows, it installs them right away as new hardware found.
Everything perfect, the device manager doesn't show any issues and I can access to the data without any issues.
But, when I try to reboot the PC with all the disks connected, it freezes at start up and windows won't start. As a matter of fact it doesn't even let you enter the bios...
What am I doing wrong here?
I read a lot about of the variations of this issue: adding an SSD to an existing system, switching from IDE to AHCI within windows etc...But I couldn't find anything about my problem....
Many thanks in advance for everyone who is willing to help me here...

Does the old HDD have Windows installed on it?

If yes, that's causing a booting problem because the system is confused by their being two 'Active' partitions internally at boot time. That's why the problem doesn't occur if second active partition is connected after the system has booted, but you shouldn't be connecting an internal drive to a 'live' running system anyway.

What you need to do is make the 'Active' partition 'Inactive' on your old hard drive by booting from a CD containing a partition manager.

Try this one: http://www.partitionwizard.com/partition-wizard-bootable-cd.html

Download the free CD image (an ISO file) and burn it to a CD using IMGBurn:
http://filehippo.com/download_imgburn/

Then boot your PC from that CD.

Make sure you select & change the active partition on the old hard drive, not the new SSD!

PC thanks for the help! Actually no..both of these were used for storage purposes only...
I ended up using DISKPART to CLEAN the disk and rebooting was no longer an issue. I wished that I could have done it without migrating the data....Oh well...
But there were never previous installations of windows on these disks.
