I have a asus m5a78l-m/usb3 motherboard I want to change it to support an I5 (not sure exact spec) but I don't want to spend loads on upgrading. I want to run games such as Rust/arma without losing frames during gun fights so on.
so I don't know if I should change motherboard to support an i5 or buy a CPU that will give me better performance which can run these games on my current motherboard.

my gfx card is also an MSI AMD r9 380

Arma 3, the FX 8350 does surprisingly well in. Rust doesn't appear to be a demanding title, based on its system requirements. Your board isn't all that great, so I would actually consider a lower wattage, FX 8320e or 8370e. Will probably need to update your bios first, though.

Thanks I think by looking at the prices etc probably best going for i5 as its such a small difference between them all that it would only be a small difference
