Mobo: Asus Z9PE-D8 WS
CPU: Xeon E5-2667 2.9GHz 6 core, same lot.
Mem: 2 * 4 * 8GB DIMM (tot 64GB) with ECC 1600MHz

Both 8 pin cpu power plugs connected

Both CPU works in socket 1.

When I install both cpu's and memory POST stop very early with q-code: b1
if I press the reset button boot continues but will only start with one cpu found.

Installed latest BIOS 5802, loaded "default optimzed settings",
still same result.

Any advice ?

Which OS are you using?

In windows 10 under settings, system, about, does it say ( 2 processors ) ?

Have you tried resetting the bios without making any changes and seeing if it will boot?

Have you made sure in MSconfig, boot tab, advanced, that number of processors box is unticked, or ticked but set to 24? If it only says 12 and ticked , untick it and reboot, when you next reboot you should be able to set it to 24, if that's the problem...

Have you tried running the system with only one memory stick per CPU, just to eliminate a faulty module?

I'm sure you already know, one side of memory slots is allocated to CPU 0 and the other side for CPU1.

As Alexoiu said, it might be wise to make sure you didn't leave a motherboard mounting screw in the wrong place causing a short.

There is also the possibility that your PSU has a bad rail, and are you using the correct cable? Make sure not to confuse a pci-e 8pin for a CPU8 pin. Sounds daft but it has been known..

Also check in the bios, on the main tab, processor, does it say count : 2 ?

and on the post screen, does it show your full memory amount and display the correct processor installed?
